Kestone XL Decision expected Today, 1-18-12

It has been announced that President Obama is expected to have a decision on Keystone XL approval in about an hour. Stay tuned for an update.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope he denies the project based on national interest, as he should.

Either way this goes, it will not be over for me and I have serious concerns if the decision is not based on national interest.

If it is not based on national interest, then here is how it could go.

TransCanada wants the Cushing to Texas phase to be completed no matter what. However, as I understand it- by law, they can not break up this project to do that. Therefore, if the permit is rejected for them (by Obama) then they could go ahead and do that phase as a separate project without presidential approval and without a thorough environmental review, etc.

Then, TransCanada can reapply for the Keystone XL phase 4, that would run through Nebraska, after the election. They do not need it before then anyway, as I am sure they would like it, but really do not need it in order to stay on schedule because they were going to build phase 3(Cushing to Texas) first anyway.

Again, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope he does the right thing and doesn’t punt again.

Thanks for your time,

David Daniel

Keystone XL Community Awareness Videos

STOP has just released four new community awareness videos that provide information and documentation about various issues surrounding the Keystone XL pipeline. Each video, or segment, covers a different topic.

We understand how difficult it is for people to find the time to sit down and read pages and pages of material and we hope this method of communication will help people in their effort to make an informed decision.

We will post new segments as soon as we can.

Thank you for your time,

David Daniel

Facts Dictate Keystone XL Has NO National Interest

Today, 12-18-11, as I researched the latest Keystone XL congressional misdirection, I watched the Sunday morning edition of the nationally televised “Meet the Press.” I must admit that I am still amazed at the blatant disregard for accurate information concerning the Keystone XL pipeline proposal. Speaker of the House, John Boehner, was a guest on today’s show and defended his support of the project, as so many do, by simply quoting TransCanada’s forward looking information that is admittedly based on assumptions about jobs claims per the Perryman report (which includes jobs for dancers), and claims of energy security. The jobs claim strays very far from actual jobs numbers and economic benefits from the previously constructed Keystone project. To quote only special interest-funded reports in this project is to disrespect the American people — who deserve an honest assessment of the Keystone XL project.

Buy Politicians and Make Laws That Fit Your Agenda.- Is This the American Way?

Tell Reid and Pelosi: Don’t cave to Republicans on the Keystone XL Pipeline

House Republicans said Friday that they are planning to push a bill to force a decision on the pipeline and strip the President’s authority to make that decision. Worse, they will attach this poison pill to the President’s payroll-tax and unemployment benefit extension package — considered a must-pass piece of legislation that contains crucial help for our long-term unemployed.

“It’s one of the Republicans’ most brazen moves to shill for oil companies at the expense of the rest of us.”

Now Is the Time to Fight the Keystone Pipeline

“Everyone who helped slow down TransCanada’s “Keystone XL” tar sands juggernaut — rural farmers and ranchers, Native Nations, organized labor, elders, faith leaders, youth, environmentalists and others who protested at the White House this summer and fall — should be proud of what we have accomplished.”

“But let’s not kid ourselves: opponents of Keystone XL have “won” nothing, save more time to organize. Now is not the time for victory celebrations, but for redoubling our efforts to beat back this lethal energy scheme.”

Ready or Not – Here TransCanada Comes

News reports out today indicate that TransCanada could start building the portion of the Keystone XL pipeline plan that runs from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the Gulf of Mexico, as early as January 2012, even as it awaits U.S. approval for the project as a whole. That portion, or segment of the proposed KXL pipeline is technically labeled “Phase 3.”

In order to help clear up some confusion about the proposed Keystone XL pipeline and how this new action is possible considering the delay, I must first explain that the Keystone Pipeline System consists of the operational “Keystone Pipeline” (Phase 1) and “Keystone-Cushing Extension” (Phase 2), and two proposed Keystone XL pipeline expansion segments.

The two proposed expansion segments that make up the KXL is what currently needs the presidential permit. If TransCanada were to get the permit for the KXL, they would begin with the Phase 3 segment first. This would connect Cushing and the operational Phase 1 & 2 segments to the refineries in the Gulf. Then they would complete Phase 4 which is what would run through Nebraska. See the link below to view TransCanada’s map of the Keystone Pipeline System.

A Temporary Reprieve

On Thursday, 11-10-11, the State Department has made the decision to delay the Keystone XL decision until further review. Instead of a decision by the end of this year, the State Department released a statement that said;

“Based on the Department’s experience with pipeline project reviews and the time typically required for environmental reviews of similar scope by other agencies, it is reasonable to expect that this process including a public comment period on a supplement to the final EIS consistent with NEPA could be completed as early as the first quarter of 2013. After obtaining the additional information, the Department would determine, in consultation with the eight other agencies identified in the Executive Order, whether the proposed pipeline was in the national interest, considering all of the relevant issues together. Among the relevant issues that would be considered are environmental concerns (including climate change), energy security, economic impacts, and foreign policy.”

Earthquake in Keystone XL Pipeline Route Proves State Department Wrong Again

Crews in central Oklahoma were out early Sunday morning assessing for damage from the largest quake to hit the state since record-keeping began. The 5.6-magnitude quake struck 4 miles east of Sparks in Lincoln County at 11:53 p.m. ET Saturday. The quake came after at least three earthquakes, a 4.7, 3.4, and a 2.7, shook much of the same area early Saturday.

Some reports place the quakes on the proposed route while others place the 5.6 quake within in 15 to 20 miles from the route. Reports of stadiums shaking 50 miles away should put the distance versus damage scenario in perspective.

The State Department, Cardno Entrix, and TransCanada have all provided incorrect fault zone data which led to their incorrect fault zone conclusion in the Environmental Impact Statement. This recent earthquake along the proposed route should provide another wake up call that demonstrates the overall inadequate and dangerous assessment provided to us by the State Department.

Keystone XL Receives Unjustifiable Support

The Dallas Morning News, despite valid concerns, makes a multitude of outrageous claims and supports the taking of Americans private property through the use of eminent domain by a foreign company for a private project that does not have federal approval and has been shown to be primarily a benefit for foreign investments. TransCanada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and is the largest shareholder in, and owns the general partner of TC Pipelines, LP. The stance taken by the Dallas Morning News shows a level of support that is based on a serious lack of honest investigation which is not consistent with the founding mission of that paper. What follows, is a thorough review of the claims and a comprehensive rebuttal.
